Seasons...

If you haven't figured it out... life is made up of seasons. A hell of a lot more than just four of them too. We have seasons for our career, seasons for relationships, seasons for hobbies or passions, and seasons for giving a shit about our health. Sometimes life seems to overwhelm us with responsibilities and taking care of others in our lives that we put our own needs on the back burner. What we are challenged to do, and it won't happen on the first try, is make our wellness a habit. Make exercise, nutrition, and sleep as consistent as say... going to work, or eating dinner. It is something that 99% of the time you are going to "do".

Conquering all of these at once is near impossible. It is a lot. So starting with one and then adding the next, and then the next would be my recommended path to consistency and success. Looking at our member list, I'd say about half of us have made working out 4-6 days a week a regular thing. Sure, I would love that to jump to 5-6 days a week but reality is... life happens. Nonetheless, working out is something we do regularly. We now have a crew of people who are making their nutrition their focus… and it is hard, and it takes effort, but it too can and hopefully WILL become a habit for them. This is not to say they won’t indulge or have days that are less than ideal… it’s just to say they are creating the habit of accountability for what they put in their mouth. What they “feed” their body. They are not eating and hoping for the best. They are aware of the calories in versus the calories out. This is HUGE!!!

Then you have folks like me who have the working out and nutrition accountability down but REALLY struggle with getting the needed amount of sleep for healthy living and functioning. I try to relate my struggle with this to people who struggle with the other two. It is a necessary change I need to make but so life altering that I struggle to make it a priority. So I get it when people struggle with the other two things. This doesn’t change the fact that we need to get a hold of all three of these components of our lives. Our health doesn’t care that it is hard, we will still experience the consequences of our choices.

So what now? Take your “breaks/sabbaticals” if you need them, but don’t let them slip away from you. Don’t let them become your normal. Set a limit and hold yourself to it.

I would love for everyone in our community to adopt the desire to have at least part of their identity as “someone who gives a shit about their health.” You have no idea who you will motivate to give a little more shit about their health just by setting the example of caring about yours.

😘 Love you!!
