There is something to be said for earning some success on our journey toward wellness. There is a "feeling", a confidence, and a joy within that recognizes we have done something good for ourselves and it feels freakin' fantastic! Soak this sh*t up! Bathe in it. You have earned it. Whether you have decided you are going to challenge yourself when you exercise instead of just show up, or you have had less drinks the last couple weeks then the past, or you have hit your protein goals for multiple days, or you have passed up fast food for the last few days... all of these things are wins!!!! They make us feel good. They move us toward a more disciplined lifestyle. Motivation becomes less of a factor, because discipline and the craving for feeling good about yourself becomes stronger than fleeting "want" to go to the gym.
This is not to say we won't stumble or trip on our journey. But when this happens I encourage you to get your ass back on the wagon as fast as you can. Don't wallow in your poor choice, give yourself a little grace and do better moving forward. Progress can feel slow at times... however as long as it is progress you are moving in the right direction. Feel good about that... ride that wave of success. Don't visualize a finish line... visualize a long journey of you feeling better and better about yourself. Know full well going in that it won't be easy, but it will be worth it in EVERY aspect of your life.
As I approach my 13th CrossFit-Aversary next week, I have never felt so strongly about what I have written above. It took a looooooooooong hot minute to figure out what works for me, but feeling like I finally have, is the best feeling in the world. Feeling like I am past the days of self-sabotaging my hard work, discipline in the gym is the most self gratifying experience of my lifetime. So, keep going. Keep working hard. Keep tweaking things until you find the lifestyle that works for you and your health and wellness... where you feel freakin' awesome about the you that you have created.
