PROtein.... Apparently all it's cracked up to be.

My proteins

Four pages... caused me to pause.  Need to do some adjusting but here is what I learned...

  • Protein is the most essential building block of our life.  It builds muscle, it grows and maintains our hair, skin, nails.  It helps form the antibodies in our immune system.
  • First switch your weight to kilograms... I am 147# (147/2.2 = approx. 67 kilograms)
  • US RDA (recommended dietary allowance) is .8 g/kg which is not much AT ALL. for me that is 53g a day.... I would crush this if it were actually what we needed.
  • Dr. Attia recommends 1.6 g/kg at the minimum end and for folks who are really working to gain muscle 2.2 g/kg.... so for me this looks like 107g on my bad days and 147g on my good days🤦 - far below what I consume on that high end.  The low end seems doable.
  • You carnivores are at a much bigger advantage in this category.  Nothing that will move my moral compass but definitely something us plant powered folks need to address.
  • Protein if it isn't used by the body to do something productive (which would take a whole hellava lot) is just passed through our urine.  It isn't stored like fat or carbs.
  • Don't cram it all or most of it in in one meal.  Spread it though the day. Depending on how often you eat... the more often the better (in moderation of course), space it out throughout.  Maybe 65-75% through your three main meals, and the other 35-25% through your snacks.
Soooooooooo, much to my dismay, we should pay attention to our protein... in particular because WE ARE trying to increase our muscle mass.  Another area for me to work on and maybe you too.  I am committed to making a concerted effort - I will keep you posted as to the results.

This is probably my most uncomfortable thing to talk about because I have a really hard time encouraging people to participate in the exploitation and abuse of animals... as well as the drastically harmful practices of our animal agriculture industry.  So I am going to leave it at that.  Shoot to get more protein.
