It's a process...

All of what we do is a process. Whether it is nutrition, exercise, building other habits, it takes time. After finishing our first week of it, I'm not sure how everyone is feeling about Zone 2 training. I have heard perspectives I hadn't thought of about it and that is good to know. I am not going to change course until at least the 8-week mark. However, if it isn't something you are enjoying, then you do you. Get after it every single day. Blow that heart rate up and finish on the floor every workout. Shit, I've done that for 13 years... wasn't the worst thing I have ever done for myself. You will still get fitness in.
The goal of this is sustainability and longevity WHILE increasing our metabolism to be more versatile in the energy systems we use. Many of us are really good using our short term energy, simple carbs, but at about 2 rounds or 10-minutes into a long workout and we are toast. So teaching our body to tap into our fat stores for energy is our goal. At the end of 8-weeks will you feel better in these longer workouts? ... my hope is yes. The work won't be done then but maybe those who are struggling to grasp my reasoning will "feel" why this is so beneficial.
What is most important is that you do what is going to keep you coming to the gym, keep this your happy-ish place. If that means saying "eff it" to turning your watch on and paying attention to your heart rate, then you do you!
My ultimate goal is that we learn what our Zone 2 FEELS like and don't need to check our watch or be distracted with it. We can just come in and know, this is a long grinder and pacing myself is Zone 2 so I know what that feels like. 3-2-1 Go!
Hang in there y'all... this is a journey, not a destination.
